Downtown Brooklyn - What Happened to Affordable Housing?

I've been a Brooklynite for 33 years. I live in Coney Island. I pay $1,700 in rent. My husband and I make modest salaries and wish we could afford to move our big family downtown. Whatever happened to affordable housing and keeping families living in Brooklyn? I mean, most of us are not celebrities, attorneys, doctors, etc...

In search of maybe one day purchasing property in downtown Brooklyn, is laughable. I mean, a million dollars? What normal family can afford that? Also, I noticed that property being sold with more than two bedrooms there are scarce. I guess big families are not wanted there.

I love Brooklyn. I love downtown Brooklyn because the atmosphere is welcoming. The architecture of the properties are beautiful. I really do wish that developers will keep normal, modest salaried and big families in mind for their next projects.
